Wiley acquires open access journal Nanophotonics -

Wiley has announced the acquisition of Nanophotonics, an open access journal that ranks within the top 20 in the ISI category of Optics & Photonics.

This acquisition has strengthened Wiley’s portfolio of journals in physics, engineering, and materials science, placing it at the forefront of research in emerging photonics applications.

Nanophotonics now joins Wiley’s group of top-tier journals, which includes Advanced Science, Advanced Materials, Advanced Optical Materials, and Small, Laser & Photonics Reviews.

Kathryn Sharples, Wiley Group Vice President of Publishing Strategy & Policy, has highlighted that the acquisition of Nanophotonics expands Wiley’s publishing options for authors in disciplines that are making measurable real-world impact, particularly across physics and materials science.

Nanophotonics features the latest developments for physicists, engineers, and material scientists working in Nanophotonics and related fields. The journal sits at the intersection of nanotechnology, electronics, engineering, and materials science. Core topics include metamaterials and plasmonics, optical sensing, integrated photonics, terahertz technology, and topological photonics.

Dennis Couwenberg, the founding publishing editor, has added that Nanophotonics was established in 2011 with the goal of creating a high-impact, community-driven journal dedicated to advancing the frontiers of photonics research. He has emphasized that the publication has remained committed to this mission through charitable initiatives, topical issues, the publication of works by Nobel Laureates, and an annual awards program recognizing outstanding research.

Submissions to Nanophotonics have continued to rise, driven by a dynamic and global pool of authors who are contributing to shaping the next generation of experts in science and engineering.

New submissions are now being accepted through the Wiley Research Exchange submission site, with the first Wiley-published issue scheduled for January 2026.
