Medical information provider Wolters Kluwer Health (WK Health), US, has announced a series of initiatives to strengthen its CME organisation and programmes for professionals and students in medicine, nursing, allied health and pharmacy. The company has made organisational enhancements following strict guidelines set by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME). Also, industry leader Dr. Karen Overstreet has been appointed as Executive Director to run the Lippincott CME Institute (LCMEI). LCMEI is part of Wolters Kluwer Health, Medical Research (Wolters Kluwer Health, Inc.), which provides innovative online research solutions for the medical, scientific and academic communities and medical journal publishing solutions for healthcare practitioners and educators.
As part of its CME restructuring, Wolters Kluwer Health has separated LCMEI from any Wolters Kluwer legal entity that markets products or activities which are supported by or sold to a Commercial Interest, defined as any entity producing, marketing, reselling or distributing health care goods and services consumed by, or used on, patients. Wolters Kluwer will operate its commercial pharmaceutical related activities as Wolters Kluwer Pharma Solutions Inc.
In addition to the restructuring, LCMEI will now be overseen by Dr. Overstreet, a licensed pharmacist and adult educator. Dr. Overstreet brings a great deal of industry knowledge and expertise to her new role, having served on the Board of Directors of the Alliance for CME and currently serving as President of the National Commission for Certification of CME Professionals. She is recognised by the North American Association of Medical Education and Communication Companies as an Exemplary CME Professional. At LCMEI, Dr. Overstreet will be responsible for strategic planning, compliance and growth of the provider unit. She will have business development responsibilities and will oversee the facilitation of resource application and staff development.
LCMEI develops and offers high quality CME activities to support healthcare professionals in practice-based learning and improvement.
