Wolters Kluwer focuses on standardizing care to improve outcomes at 2018 ANCC Magnet Conference -

Wolters Kluwer, Health has announced that the Chief Nurse of Health Learning, Research and Practice, Anne Dabrow Woods, explored the critical role nurses play in addressing the global challenge of care variability and how it impacts patient outcomes at the 2018 ANCC National Magnet Conference. The thought leadership educational vendor session, 'Improving Healthcare Outcomes-The Business of Caring for People,' outlined three effective ways healthcare practitioners can access information to put clinical evidence into practice. The presentation took place on October 24, 2018 at 1 p.m.

When care variation exists in hospitals and healthcare systems, institutions face added challenges to meet reimbursable quality measures and provide optimal patient outcomes. Drawing from a recently authored white paper, Using the Best Available Evidence for the Business of Healthcare, Woods will discuss key factors that affect clinical care variation while demonstrating the need for standardised, coordinated care across the U.S. healthcare industry.

Woods will also outline specific, proven steps, including implementation of advanced clinical decision support that healthcare organisations can take to decrease variability in decision-making at the point of care. For instance, a recent Rockburn Institute study outlined in the white paper how use of nursing decision support tools at the bedside dramatically improved hospital Value-Based Purchasing performance scores.

Sponsored by the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC), the Magnet Conference is the largest nursing conference in the United States, offering more than 70 concurrent sessions in addition to daily general sessions. Including pre-conference events, attendees can earn 46.75 continued nursing education (CNE) credits. The event takes place October 24-26 at the Colorado Convention Center in Denver.
