Wolters Kluwer introduces UpToDate® Connect for embedding clinical content in digital health platforms -

Wolters Kluwer Health has introduced UpToDate® Connect, an API that enables digital health applications and platforms to embed UpToDate® clinical content. Lumeris has adopted UpToDate® Connect by integrating its content into its Tom AI-powered platform.

Digital health technology companies can embed health content into clinical applications and platforms using UpToDate® Connect. With it, clinical decision content can be accessed through digital health applications and platforms to provide clinical users with answers at the point of care, to reduce burnout, and support workflow efficiency.

Christopher Sullivan, VP and GM for Pharmacy and Health Technology Solutions at Wolters Kluwer Health, explains that UpToDate® Connect embeds evidence-based clinical content directly into digital health platforms to bridge the gap between technology and care delivery. He adds that allowing technology companies to incorporate UpToDate® is intended to support seamless, intuitive user experiences and help them differentiate in a competitive market by delivering value to their users.

Building on UpToDate, a clinical decision support solution used by clinicians and hospitals worldwide, UpToDate Connect is presented as a way to streamline workflows so clinicians can remain focused on patient care without switching between tools or applications.

Lumeris, which focuses on AI-enabled primary care transformation, is integrating UpToDate Connect into its Tom AI-powered platform to support delivery of its Primary Care as a Service. The company notes it is among the first to integrate UpToDate Connect.

According to Lumeris, evidence-based guidance from Wolters Kluwer is embedded directly into Tom’s autonomous workflows to help physicians make faster, more informed decisions without interrupting care, aiming to create a more connected and proactive primary care model that seeks to expand access, improve outcomes, and reduce clinician burden at scale.

Jean-Claude Saghbini, CTO and President of Technology Services at Lumeris, describes the integration as bringing real-time insights into the clinical moment and says that combining UpToDate’s evidence-based clinical decision support with Tom’s AI-powered actions is intended to move from informing care to activating it, with the stated aim of delivering impact for physicians and patients.

UpToDate Connect offers access to content through AI-enhanced search, allowing clinicians to ask natural, conversational questions without leaving their workflow and reducing time spent searching elsewhere. For enterprise use, UpToDate Connect supports Single Sign-On (SSO) for user access and Bring Your Own Licensing (BYOL) to accommodate organizations and technology developers of varying sizes.
