World Machine, CORDIS repository discussed on day two at Frankfurt Fair -

The second day sessions at the Frankfurt Book Fair included what has been termed a fantastic step in time. Every half an hour the Gutenberg Museum demonstrated Gutenberg's print press, and attendees were able to experience the company's inventions live.

Michael Hauschild, a physicist with CERN, photographer Peter Ginter, author Fran Zobel and publisher Lois Lammerhuber offered a discussion of the World Machine. This large hadron collider at the CERN research centre in Geneva, tracing the origins of the earth's existence, is stated to be the largest and most complex ever conceived by man.

Additionally, the EU's Publications Office offered a discussion of CORDIS, the primary repository and official dissemination portal of EU-funded research projects and results. Its presentation sought to answer the question, 'How do we find the best partners for new research projects?' The presentation demonstrated CORDIS' new interactive platform for fostering cross-European partnerships in research including collaborative tools, RSS, blogs and online communication with special emphasis on current social networking trends.
