The Company of Biologists has renewed its Read-and-Publish open access agreement with ZB Med – Information Centre for Life Sciences in Germany for the 2027–2029 period. The agreement enables researchers at participating German institutions to publish open access articles across the publisher’s five journals and access its hybrid journal portfolio.
Under the renewed agreement, corresponding authors at participating institutions can publish an unlimited number of research articles immediately open access in the hybrid journals Development, Journal of Cell Science, and Journal of Experimental Biology, as well as the fully open access journals Disease Models & Mechanisms and Biology Open. Authors will not be required to pay individual article processing charges (APCs) for eligible publications. Researchers at participating institutions will also receive unlimited access to the hybrid journals, including their archives dating back to 1853.
Separately, participating institutions can purchase access to the journal archive under an additional agreement. Discounts will be determined by the number of institutions choosing to participate in the archive-access arrangement.
The agreement forms part of the organizations' ongoing efforts to support open access publishing and improve access to life sciences research in Germany.
