Benchmarking Report on the Use of Knowledge Graphs -

A new benchmarking study illustrates how large corporates are embracing semantic standards and knowledge graph technology.

The report released at the recently concluded The Knowledge Graph Conference highlights how knowledge graph adoption is still in its emerging stage. 50% of the companies surveyed for this report said they are in the process of conducting pilots or proof of concepts primarily for limited use cases. Some 35% of those surveyed responded that they developed extensible/scalable platforms based on reusable architecture using expanded design principles.

Integration, harmonization, entity resolution, inventory, lineage, and identity management make up about 60% of the primary use cases. The rest– 40% - of the use cases are related to business applications such as data discovery, financial reporting, and customer profiling.

Furthermore, the report identifies overcoming organizational inertia, navigating the skills gap, dealing with budgetary constraints, and governance maturity as some of the major inhibitors to knowledge graph adoption. According to the benchmarking report, the most important challenges include convincing executive leadership about the value proposition, defining implementation requirements using empirical metrics, and having pragmatic discussions on what is required to implement knowledge graphs.
