CABEI’s New Blue Bond Taxonomy -

The Central American Bank for Economic Integration (CABEI) incorporated a new blue bond taxonomy into its existing green bond framework. The taxonomy is based on the “Blue Bond Reference Paper Investments” and the “Sustainable Ocean Principles” published by the United Nations Global Compact. It is also aligned with both the Climate Bonds Initiative's Green Taxonomy and the European Union Taxonomy.

The Blue Taxonomy will help CABEI to channel resources to finance and refinance projects determined within eligible categories such as Water Resource Protection, Sustainable Water Management, Renewable Energy, Blue Economy, and Nature Protection. Moreover, the taxonomy is aligned with the bank’s 2020-2024 institutional strategy and existing pipeline of projects, as CABEI continues to support member countries achieve Sustainable Development and climate resilience.

Furthermore, CABEI’s Green & Blue Bond Framework consolidates its position as the main provider of climate financing in Central America.
