EPO: Linking data for better decision making -

The ability to break down barriers to patent information is one of the defining features of the European Patent Office (EPO). The organization has always endeavored to make public information, useful and accessible. Precisely why, the EPO finds linked data a highly appealing tool says Benoît Battistelli, president of the Munich, Germany based organization.

EPO applies linked data to bibliographic information for European patents so that data scientists and web developers’ can access patent information without downloading it. By linking data with other datasets, new sets can be created or combined with the patent information available with the EPO. This will help show relationships between patents and information contained in other databases and enable superior informed decision-making.
