Has ECM outlived its relevance in a digital, interconnected, cloud-enabled world? -

In January 2017, Enterprise Content Management (ECM) as a market name was declared dead by Gartner. ECM was replaced by a new term, Content Services. Content Services is a strategic concept that covers three aspects: content services applications, platforms, and components.

According to David Jones, Director of Product Management at Nuxeo, Gartner’s declaration has been proved more right than wrong. He writes that ECM as we knew it has no place in the digital age, a world where information is increasingly moving to the cloud, and powerful search capabilities can provide access to information, no matter where it is stored.

Furthermore, David believes that getting to that Content Services future is complex and will necessitate a much longer contribution from ECM than it being dead conveys.
