Objectiv is a community-driven open-source project aiming to do for customer data modeling what Hugging Face did for natural language processing. Its key objective is to build data models on one team/company's dataset and run them seamlessly on another team/company’s dataset.
The first step Objectiv took was to define an open analytics taxonomy, which offers a detailed specification of product analytics events to track and structure this data. This taxonomy was defined and tested with the use cases of Objectiv’s initial community of 50 companies to ensure it fits their digital products and data modeling goals.
Moreover, as the taxonomy standardizes input data, Objectiv was able to develop tooling to support engineers in implementing tracking instrumentation. The initial community grew to 300+ data team members. With their input, an open-source collection of models, an open model hub, ranging from typical product analytics use-cases to predicting user behavior with machine learning, was developed. Furthermore, the open analytics taxonomy and open model hub are now being extended to cover marketing, CRM, payments data, and more.
