The Korea Institute of Science and Technology (KIST) has developed an Artificial Intelligence (AI) service platform based on an ontology model. The platform will allow caregivers to share various symptoms and caring methods for dementia patients.
The KIST compiled knowledge of how to take care of dementia patients, their living environment, medical knowledge, and information on the people around them by interviewing dementia workers in dementia care facilities. Furthermore, the KIST referred to existing ontology models of caring for people with dementia, care facility manuals, symptoms, and environment to develop the ontology-based system.
The institute applied an inference system that recommends customized care methods based on users’ questions. It developed a graphical user interface to make the platform available through personal computers or smart devices. The AI-based platform can be used by technology-based care services using robots or chatbots.
The platform is expected to reduce the burden of dementia care for caregivers.
