AI is creating an aftermarket for scholarly content as agents act on figures, methods, citations, datasets, metadata and usage signals beyond the article page. This can improve discovery, assessment, integrity checking and reuse. The publishing test is whether provenance, rights, versioning, correction status, context and accountability remain attached to each reusable scholarly unit.
