This paper focuses on the three issues that affect access to scientific research studies – the legal issues of copyright and database protection that restrict scientists from viewing other studies, the use of the legalities for public benefit, and the relationship between public funding of research studies and access to it. Initiatives such as open access, which differ from the traditional publishing model, are analysed in this paper.
