Open access in medical publishing: trends and countertrends -

PLoS issued its first open access journal in October 2003. Publisher BMJ has allotted US$9 million to ‘challenge the status quo of medical publishing’. However, due to increasing hits to its website, BMJ has started charging non-subscribers for the all papers except the original study.
