Bestofmedia Group, a France-based online media publishing company focused on technology, has announced the acquisition of Computing.Net (www.computing.net), a source of high tech information and technical support for IT professionals, developers, tech enthusiasts and consumers. The move comes within two months following the $35 million investment Bestofmedia raised from venture capital firm Index Ventures. The funding was projected to help the company accelerate growth in the US market, build on its position as a leading independent online media site, and expand its technology-focused offerings.
Founded in 1996, Computing.Net features a comprehensive database of technical support questions and answers based on a large technology expert community. It covers over 30 topics including all major computer operating systems, hardware, security, networking and programming.
Computing.Net is now part of Tom's Guide (www.tomsguide.com), a Bestofmedia Group brand. With 13 million monthly unique visitors, Tom's Guide is projected as a definitive online resource for unbiased product reviews, price comparisons, news and information on consumer electronics and high technology products for the home and business. Bestofmedia's other online products include Tom's Hardware and Tom's Games. The company's other acquisitions in the past include BuyCentral.com, Presence-PC.com, Infos-du-Net.com, JeuxVideoPC.com, TomsHardware.com, MaPetiteEntreprise.net and 3Labs.
