STM publisher Springer Science+Business Media, Germany, has reached an agreement with EBSCO Information Services for the sale of Minerva Wissenschaftliche Buchhandlung. Minerva Wissenschaftliche Buchhandlung GmbH, Vienna (Austria) is one of the foremost library providers in central Europe and views its role as an interface for publishing houses and information providers.
Founded in 1909, Minerva has been providing services to libraries in the areas of serials management and monograph orders, complementing well the EBSCO portfolio of products and services. In addition to print products, providing online access to E-journals and E-books represents one of its fastest-growing lines of business, as does consortia management. The organisation has been in business for almost 100 years and will celebrate its centennial anniversary in 2009.
EBSCO is one of the leading information providers for libraries, research institutes, publishers and businesses worldwide. The company offers a broad palette of services, including access to and management of print and electronic journals and databases. This acquisition brings EBSCO's industry-leading electronic and print services and products, and databases, to Minerva's customers and strengthens the EBSCO service network in Central and Eastern Europe.
