Journal of Pain and Symptom Management named official publication of the AAHPM -

STM publisher Elsevier, Netherlands, has announced that the Journal of Pain and Symptom Management (JPSM) will be the official journal of the American Academy of Hospice and Palliative Medicine (AAHPM), beginning in January 2009. The journal will continue to serve as the official journal of the National Hospice and Palliative Care Organization (NHPCO) and the United States Cancer Pain Relief Committee (USCPRC).

JPSM is the leading international forum for publication of the latest clinical research and best practices related to the relief of illness burden among patients afflicted with serious or life-threatening illness. The peer-reviewed content includes original articles, reviews and clinical reports that together address the key issues in patient care and an array of topics as varied as the international diversity of palliative medicine, the economics of palliative care, and bioethics in end-of-life care.

AAHPM is the professional organisation for physicians specialising in hospice and palliative medicine. Membership is also open to nurses and other health care providers who are committed to improving the quality of life of patients and families facing life-threatening or serious conditions. Originally organised as the Academy of Hospice Physicians in 1988, AAHPM began with 250 charter members and has grown to over 3,600 members in 2008.
