Medical publisher BMJ Group, UK, has announced a publishing partnership with the Health Foundation, an independent charity working to improve the quality of healthcare in the UK. The new partnership is set to strengthen quality improvement and patient safety in healthcare.
Under the deal, the Health Foundation, which has a longstanding reputation for supporting innovation and quality improvement in healthcare, will become joint owner with BMJ Group of its leading title in the field, BMJ Quality and Safety (formerly Quality and Safety in Health Care), from April 1.
The new partnership aims to advance research and inspire fresh thinking in a rapidly burgeoning area of interest to clinicians, medical managers, and policy makers around the globe. The title has appointed a new editor in chief, Kaveh Shojania, Director of the University of Toronto's Center for Patient Safety and Associate Professor of Medicine at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Center, Toronto, Canada. Prof. Shojania will take over the position from Dr David Stevens, of the Quality Literature Program, Dartmouth Institute for Health Policy and Clinical Care, New Hampshire, USA, who has edited the title since 2004.
To celebrate the announcement of the new partnership, BMJ Quality and Safety is publishing a special supplement on key aspects of quality improvement in healthcare. Topics include what type of knowledge is required and how to engage clinicians and others in the process.
BMJ Quality and Safety claims to be the highest impact journal in the arena of quality improvement and patient safety. The announcement of the new partnership comes as leading thinkers and innovators in the field gather at the 16th International Forum on Quality & Safety in Healthcare from April 5-8, 2011, in Amsterdam, The Netherlands.
Around 2,500 people from 70 countries are expected to attend this year's Forum.
