Lippincott Williams & Wilkins reports significant gains in 2010 impact factor rankings -

Healthcare publisher Lippincott Williams & Wilkins (LWW), a Wolters Kluwer Health business, has announced significant gains in 2010 Impact Factor (IF) scores and specialty rankings across its portfolio of journals based on the 2010 Journal Citation Reports (JCR).

Improvements in specialty rankings were strong with 23 LWW-published titles holding 28 spots in the top 5 rankings across 18 specialties, and an impressive 50 titles holding 57 top 10 positions across 30 specialties. Gains in IFs were seen by half of the LWW titles included in the 2010 JCR, with 24 titles moving 25 percent or greater. The average increase among two-thirds of LWW published journals with an IF was a standout 27 percent from 2009 to 2010.

LWW titles posted notable gains in their specialties led by Anesthesiology (IF 5.486) taking over the top ranked position in the Anesthesiology category. In the Peripheral Vascular Disease category, LWW publishes all of the top five and seven of the top 10 ranked journals in this specialty. The category is led by Circulation (IF 14.429), published on behalf of the American Heart Association, which also holds the #1 position in Cardiac and Cardiovascular Systems. In Surgery, Annals of Surgery (IF 7.474) maintains its position at #1 in IF ranking and was the most frequently cited journal in its specialty in 2010. In the nursing category, LWW has two of the top five journals, including Cancer Nursing (IF 2.065) which moved from 5th place up to the 2nd ranked position.

Other top performers include Neurology (IF 8.017), published on behalf of the American Academy of Neurology, as the most frequently cited journal in Clinical Neurology (ranked #4 in IF) with more than 72,000 total citations in 2010. In the Transplantation category, Transplantation (IF 3.676) was the most frequently cited journal in 2010 with 26,665 citations (ranked at #4 in IF).

A total of 15 LWW published titles were newly recognised by the 2010 JCR including three titles from the American Heart Association's portfolio - Circulation: Cardiovascular Genetics; Circulation: Cardiovascular Interventions; and Circulation: Cardiovascular Quality & Outcomes. Three titles from LWW's Current Opinion series were added to the JCR list including, Current Opinion in Anesthesiology; Current Opinion in Endocrinology, Diabetes & Obesity; and Current Opinion in Otolaryngology and Head and Neck Surgery.
