Publishing Technology to rebuild Sunmedia’s publishing platform with pub2web tech -

Publishing-specific software solutions provider Publishing Technology plc, UK, has announced a partnership with content solutions provider Sunmedia, Japan. Under the deal, Publishing Technology will deploy its pub2web technology to rebuild Sunmedia’s online publishing platform as a robust new research service.

Sunmedia's current platform supplies Japanese researchers with full-text access online to 35 journals from seven publishers, and articles from over 4,000 journals through pay-per-view. The new service, PierOnline, will support a range of new features to better serve these publishers and their subscribers.

Publishing Technology's pub2web team is currently developing the information architecture and design of the new PierOnline site, and expects to release a beta site by the end of 2009. pub2web is projected as a comprehensive, content-agnostic, multilingual digital publishing platform built on IngentaConnect technology. It is aimed at addressing the evolving and diverse online strategies of the 21st century publishing community. The platform seeks to provide publishers with full control over their brand, content and user relationships along with the flexibility to deliver content at the most granular level. The aim is to enable the publishers to leverage their online investment to its fullest potential.

Sunmedia provides scholarly information based on ‘Content Solutions’ as its business concept. It delivers scholarly content including various bibliographic databases, e-journals, full-text databases and other academic content via document delivery for research institutions.

The deal with Sunmedia marks Publishing Technology’s second such in recent days. Last week, the company launched a new and expanded ICE Virtual Library for the Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE) and its publishing subsidiary, Thomas Telford. The platform provides the first consolidated home for journal and book archives that date back to 1836, alongside ICE’s professional book list, the ICE manuals series and its new collection of e-books. The library is supported by Publishing Technology’s pub2web technology platform, and is claimed to represent one of the world’s largest online civil engineering resources.
