STM publisher Elsevier, Netherlands, has announced a partnership with the Scientific Committee on Problems of the Environment (SCOPE). Under the deal, Elsevier will publish the latter's new journal Environmental Development, slated for launch in the final quarter of 2011. Prof. Theo Beckers (Tilburg Sustainability Center, the Netherlands) will serve as the Editor-in-Chief of the journal.
Supported by UNESCO and the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), Environmental Development responds to the dynamic and impressive expansion of both environmental sciences and policies of the last four decades. The journal aims to serve as a transnational panel to identify and debate problems, and to suggest how to prevent or respond to them. An important subject will be the development of quantitative methods and models for scenario-building and forecasting.
Environmental Development will provide a future oriented, pro-active, authoritative source of information and learning for researchers, postgraduate students, policy makers and managers. It will seek to bridge the gap between fundamental research and the application in management and policy practices. This journal unites natural sciences and social and behavioral sciences, and promotes scientific work from the non-western world, aiming at strengthening the collaboration between the developed and developing world.
