Morgan Kaufmann, an imprint of Elsevier Science & Technology Books, has formed a partnership with semiconductor firm AMD to publish a new book for developers, Heterogeneous Computing with OpenCL. The book was co-authored by several industry and academic leaders from AMD and Northeastern University, including Benedict Gaster, Lee Howes, David R. Kaeli, Perhaad Mistry and Dana Schaa.
The publication seeks to provide hands-on OpenCL experience and details multiple device architectures and application programming interfaces (APIs). These range from multi-core CPUs, GPUs and fully integrated Accelerated Processing Units like AMD Fusion APU technology, to fundamental parallel algorithms.
Heterogeneous Computing with OpenCL is expected to be available in print and electronic formats in August 2011 from many major booksellers. The book provides detailed examples that illustrate the capability of OpenCL to handle image processing, web plugins, random number generation and video processing.
