Ingram Content Group has announced that Kaplan University, a leader in higher education innovation, has selected Vital Source Technologies, Inc., Ingram's leading e-textbook solution and its VitalSource Bookshelf® platform to support the University's online learning programs nationwide.
Using the VitalSource Bookshelf platform, students and faculty have one-click access to e-textbooks within their course environment with options to download content and use it online and offline on a variety of device types including Mac, Windows, iPad, Kindle Fire and Android. Regardless of the content option used, all work, including notes, highlights and annotations, will automatically sync across devices.
Kaplan University and its instructors will also benefit from the platform's full suite of accessibility features and rich analytic tools, which allow faculty to view individual and aggregate class engagement data and use it to manage successful learning outcomes.
After an exhaustive user needs analysis and year-long pilot, Vital Source was ultimately selected to support the needs of Kaplan based on results of the study, which evaluated factors such as user satisfaction, successful student outcomes, a fully-integrated support structure including helpdesk support and a solid future technology roadmap.
The VitalSource Bookshelf platform claims to be the most used e-textbook delivery platform in higher education with more than 4 million users across 6,000 campuses around the world. It uses the latest technology to enhance the learning experience through e-textbooks and digital education. Content from more than 500 of the world's top academic publishers is accessible to VitalSource Bookshelf users anytime, anywhere, and on a variety of operating systems and devices.
The migration of all Kaplan University students to the new platform is expected to be complete by Spring 2014.
