Academic publisher Maney Publishing, UK, has acquired the journal publishing division of Left Coast Press, Inc. (LCP). Left Coast Press, Inc. is a US-based publisher of academic and professional materials in the humanities, social sciences, and related professional disciplines.
The 13 journals centre on a strong group of archaeology and anthropology titles, including California Archaeology, Ethnoarchaeology and Lithic Technology, which complement one of Maney's key subject strengths. A further group of titles, including Journal of Museum Education, will broaden Maney's activity in heritage and museology, while a group of significant titles on qualitative research and education add a new dimension to Maney's list.
Maney and LCP will enjoy a marketing partnership to promote the LCP books to Maney's worldwide audience for journals, while LCP markets the journals within its book programme, thus allowing both publishers to reach a wider customer base. The LCP journals are expected to benefit from Maney's global marketing and publishing technologies, and bring the total number of journals in its archaeology and heritage collection to over thirty.
The acquisition and partnership exemplify Maney's recent growth in North America marked by the recent opening of its Philadelphia office. For LCP, this deal represents the chance to focus more firmly on the publication of its dynamic and highly-respected booklist.
