Baker & Taylor, the premier worldwide distributor of digital and print books, has announced a partnership with Coachella Valley Unified School District (CVUSD) to utilise the company's digital education platform for simultaneous access to digital content for students.
Coachella Valley Unified schools will be able to access thousands of digital titles aligned to the districts units of study. Mapping digital eBook content to the curricular goals of CVUSD schools, from Elementary to High School, allows more than 20,000 students, including preschool, to enhance their learning and success in the classroom. KnowledgePoint provides schools with the core tools necessary for managing and developing their collections and raising student literacy. Tools include curriculum and instruction team to help curate content, a device?agnostic reader and integrations within the CVUSD's existing technology systems. This partnership will allow CVUSD to offer content to address instructional objectives while also including high?interest content students desire but cannot always afford.
CVUSD and Superintendent, Dr. Darryl S. Adams, have been recognized nationally as leaders in digital education initiatives for students. CVUSD is one of the first school districts in the country to provide iPads to every student - Pre?K to 12th grade. In a district where most students are on free or reduced lunch and live below the poverty line, developing out of the box ideas to bridge the digital divide is critical to student success. Among those ideas, Wi-Fi on Wheels, a program where the district outfits school buses with Wi?Fi routers and solar panels and parks them overnight within underserved communities to ensure students have adequate internet access, has demonstrated tremendous success in allowing teachers and students to utilize more technology during and after school.
