Academic publisher SAGE Publishing has reported continued strong performance and growth across its journals portfolio in the 2018 Journal Citation Reports (Source: 2017 Web of Science Data).
In the 2018 reports, 12 SAGE journals were added, bringing the total number ranked to 597, a 28% increase over the past five years. In this year's reports, 67% of SAGE journals saw increased Impact Factors (IF), which is higher than the overall percentage of ranked titles seeing increases. 185 titles are now placed in the top 30% of the JCR, with over 90 journals receiving a top 10 category rank and 54% of SAGE journals ranked within the top half of their subject category. In the 2018 release SAGE publishes the market leading journals within 11 categories.
As a result of strategic acquisitions and organic growth across the medical, engineering and technology disciplines, SAGE is marked out as one of the top five publishers of medical journals in the world. Over the past five years SAGE has seen a 54% increase in the number of titles indexed in the Science Citation Index (SCI) and this year saw 234 journals ranked, a 7.8% increase from the number of titles ranked in last year's reports. 43 journals are also now ranked in the top 25% of their SCI category. In the 2018 reports SAGE publishes the market leading journal within two SCI categories - Orthopaedics; and Rehabilitation (SCI).
In the Social Science Citation Index (SSCI) category SAGE has 408 titles listed, a 32% increase over the last five years. Of those titles, 70% received an increased IF, five of which represent newly ranked titles for SAGE. 119 journals are now placed in the top 25% of the JCR rankings for the SSCI category and in the 2018 reports SAGE publishes the market-leading journal within nine SSCI categories - Criminology & Penology; Education & Educational Research; Education, Special; Family Studies; Geography; Psychology, Social; Social Sciences, Interdisciplinary; Social Work; and Women's Studies.
