Emerald Publishing becomes first publisher to adopt F1000’s Open Research Publishing model -

Emerald Open Research, the first Open Research Publishing platform for impactful social sciences research, has launched with its first four gateways, which tackle critical world issues linked to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. Designed in partnership with F1000, Emerald has also become the first publisher to adopt F1000's pioneering Open Research Publishing model, enabling rapid publication followed by transparent expert peer review, helping to maximise impact and reproducibility of a much broader range of research outputs.

Now open to submissions from researchers across the world, the four gateways, Sustainable Food Systems; Responsible Management; Sustainable Cities and Educational Learning, are based on multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary research themes that address crucial real-world problems. The gateways are personalised portals linking related content under key themes.

In being an open platform, Emerald Open Research gives audiences beyond academia – be it policymakers, practitioners or the general public – quick and easy access to research relating to these topics that can create positive change for all.

Authors can share their findings through a range of research options, including data notes, case studies, study protocols, and null or negative findings. This increases the accessibility and discoverability of research.

In a further move away from traditional publishing, all research published on Emerald Open Research will be subject to open peer review, where all reports are published alongside the article together with the authors' responses. This approach not only offers rapid publication, but the transparent peer review process encourages experts to provide constructive feedback to help authors improve their work.
