New Zealand-based Lincoln University partners with Figshare to launch institutional research data repository -

Lincoln University is launching its institutional research data repository, Data@Lincoln, powered by Figshare and available on a custom domain at https://data.lincoln.ac.nz.

Among the initial datasets in Data@Lincoln is a collection of weather data recorded at Lincoln University from 1960 - 2011. Daily climatological observations have been recorded at Lincoln University since January 1881, and earlier handwritten logbooks from 1928 - 1971 have previously been scanned and made available online.

As the first open access university in New Zealand, Lincoln’s open access policy ensures the research produced at the university is accessible and reusable by everyone.

Lincoln University takes a broad ethical position, which asserts that if public funding has supported the creation of an idea, research, or other content then it is reasonable and fair that it be made publicly accessible.

Lincoln University is also committed to helping its students grow and expand their opportunities, and the free flow of information will only facilitate this.

Researchers at Lincoln can upload their research datasets openly and with a reusable licence. They can also track usage metrics – views, downloads, citations, and Altmetrics – and datasets published in Data@Lincoln are marked for discoverability in Google Dataset Search. Data and metadata can also be harvested in and out of Data@Lincoln using Figshare’s robust API.

Other research outputs from Lincoln University can be found in Research@Lincoln and Living Heritage.
