EDP Sciences has joined 1445 other organisations supporting the Declaration on Research Assessment (DORA).
The declaration ‘recognises the need to improve the ways in which the outputs of scholarly research are evaluated’ and ‘is a worldwide initiative covering all scholarly disciplines and all key stakeholders including funders, publishers, professional societies, institutions, and researchers.’
DORA emerged from a meeting of editors and publishers during the Annual Meeting of The American Society for Cell Biology (ASCB) in San Francisco, 2012. One of their primary concerns was that ‘The Journal Impact Factor is frequently used as the primary parameter with which to compare the scientific output of individuals and institutions.’ The group went on to develop a set of recommendations, referred to as the San Francisco Declaration on Research Assessment.
