IOP Publishing (IOPP) has announced the launch of a revolutionary series of open access journals dedicated to the application and development of machine learning (ML) and artificial intelligence (AI) across various scientific disciplines. This new series, the first of its kind, will explore the transformative impact of ML and AI in physical sciences, engineering, biomedicine and health, and environmental and earth sciences.
Expanding on the success of its flagship journal, Machine Learning: Science and Technology, launched in 2019, IOPP's new series will encompass three additional journals: Machine Learning: Health, Machine Learning: Earth, and Machine Learning: Engineering. These journals will begin accepting submissions later this year, broadening the scope of ML and AI research and its applications.
The series aims to meet the diverse needs of research communities working at the intersection of ML, AI, and the sciences. In addition to traditional research articles and reviews, the new journals will feature unique content types such as dataset articles, benchmark studies, and challenge articles. This will provide a comprehensive platform for researchers to share and advance their work in these cutting-edge fields.
Authors contributing to IOPP’s new machine learning journals will enjoy the benefit of free open access publishing throughout 2025, with all article publication charges covered by IOPP. This initiative underscores IOPP's commitment to making high-quality research accessible to a global audience and supporting the dissemination of impactful scientific knowledge.
As a member of the Purpose-Led Publishing coalition, IOPP ensures that the research published will contribute meaningfully to the advancement of knowledge in the physical sciences community. Profits generated by IOPP are reinvested into the Institute of Physics, supporting efforts to make science more accessible and promoting the broader impact of scientific research.
