PeerJ welcomes Ecuador’s Instituto Nacional de Biodiversidad as the newest AIMs member -

PeerJ has announced that the Instituto Nacional de Biodiversidad (INABIO) of Ecuador has joined its Annual Institutional Membership (AIMs) program, becoming the first South American member to do so. This partnership will provide INABIO-affiliated authors with the opportunity to publish their research in any PeerJ journal without incurring any Article Processing Charges (APCs), ensuring that their important work in biodiversity is made openly accessible to researchers around the globe.

The AIMs program, which INABIO has joined through the end of 2025, offers a unique membership model that eliminates the financial barriers often associated with open access publishing. By joining this program, INABIO is reinforcing its commitment to making scientific knowledge freely available, aligning with its mission to advance biodiversity research and conservation efforts in Ecuador.

INABIO, under the Ministry of Environment, plays a crucial role in planning, promoting, coordinating, and implementing research processes related to biodiversity and conservation. The institute’s work is vital for generating the knowledge, science, technology, and innovation needed to preserve Ecuador’s rich natural heritage. This membership with PeerJ will support INABIO in its mission by enabling its researchers to share their findings widely without the concern of publication fees.

INABIO-affiliated authors who wish to take advantage of this opportunity must complete a short form before submitting their work. INABIO staff will verify the form to confirm their eligibility for APC-free publishing.

PeerJ’s AIMs program is designed to offer institutions like INABIO a simple, cost-effective way to provide their researchers with unlimited open-access publishing. By removing the need for individual APC payments, the program reduces institutional administrative overhead and ensures that faculty can focus on their research rather than financial logistics.

Institutions interested in learning more about PeerJ’s AIMs program and how it can benefit their researchers are encouraged to contact PeerJ directly for further information.
