NSLC and OpenAIRE partner to enhance global open science infrastructure and strengthen Europe-China scholarly exchange -

The National Science Library of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (NSLC) and OpenAIRE have announced a collaborative initiative to advance research interoperability and visibility across Europe and China. This partnership aims to improve data management standards and foster interconnected, FAIR (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, and Reusable) research infrastructures, ultimately supporting open science practices globally.

A key goal of the three-year collaboration is to enhance the compatibility and quality of data management systems, specifically focusing on China’s Pubscholar and the OpenAIRE Graph. This integration will be achieved through a series of workshops, training sessions, and joint teams dedicated to establishing streamlined data exchange protocols and curating metadata standards. These initiatives are intended to create a seamless bridge between both platforms, fostering a more accessible and interoperable research ecosystem.

NSLC and OpenAIRE will co-develop the OpenAIRE Guidelines, with the Chinese Academy of Sciences contributing actively to set these standards as a global framework for research sharing. By gathering feedback through pilot projects within Chinese repositories and participation in OpenAIRE’s Working Group, the guidelines will be refined to strengthen open access practices worldwide.

The partnership will also focus on building a global network for open science infrastructure, emphasizing accessibility, trustworthiness, and AI-readiness of research outputs. Expert panels and forums will bring together open science leaders to exchange innovative strategies and discuss sustainability frameworks. These discussions will support the development of long-term strategies for open science, benefiting researchers and institutions on a global scale.

This collaboration marks a significant step in connecting research communities in China and Europe. By providing an integrated platform for open science, NSLC and OpenAIRE aim to support sustainable development within the scholarly ecosystem, ultimately benefiting academic institutions worldwide and fostering a more connected, transparent, and impactful global research landscape.
