Taylor & Francis integrates eBooks platform with GetFTR, enhancing research accessibility -

Taylor & Francis and GetFTR (Get Full Text Research) have announced a major advancement in research accessibility: Taylor & Francis eBooks are now fully integrated with the GetFTR service. This marks the first time GetFTR entitlement checking has been implemented specifically for eBooks hosted on a separate platform, setting a new standard for seamless access to research materials.

While many publishers using GetFTR already include eBooks in their entitlement checks, Taylor & Francis is the first to adapt the service for books hosted independently from journals. Taylor & Francis eBooks and journals operate on dedicated platforms but are registered under the same Crossref account. To accommodate this unique setup, GetFTR developed DOI-based logic to differentiate between content types.

This enhancement means that when researchers discover Taylor & Francis content through GetFTR, requests for journal articles are routed to the Taylor & Francis Online platform, while eBook requests are directed to the Taylor & Francis eBooks platform.

GetFTR provides researchers with real-time entitlement checks, ensuring faster and more reliable access to the resources their institutions have made available. Its intuitive indicators on search results guide users directly to the appropriate publisher platforms, saving time and reducing barriers to accessing high-quality research.

With this integration, researchers will now benefit from uninterrupted access to Taylor & Francis’ extensive catalog of eBooks, alongside its journal offerings, all through the same streamlined service.

This collaboration represents a significant technical milestone for GetFTR, as it opens the door for similar integrations across other publishers hosting content on multiple platforms. “This development highlights our commitment to enabling researchers to access the resources they need more efficiently, regardless of content type or platform location,” a GetFTR representative stated.

Taylor & Francis eBooks cover a broad range of academic disciplines, making this development particularly impactful for global researchers and students. By ensuring faster and more intuitive access, this integration supports the mission of both Taylor & Francis and GetFTR to advance research and education worldwide.
