Edinburgh University Press selects Paradigm to digitize 1,600 scholarly titles -

Edinburgh University Press (EUP) has partnered with Paradigm Publishing Services to archive and digitize 1,600 academic books, with digital availability scheduled to begin in 2026. The initiative will focus on bringing previously out-of-print works back into circulation, including influential texts from across the press’s historical backlist.

Approximately 300 titles are set for digital release in 2026, with further volumes to follow in 2027. The full archive encompasses works by prominent scholars, including The Chimpanzee by Jane Goodall, The Crusades by Carole Hillenbrand, and Spaces of Hope by David Harvey. Other titles span disciplines such as Scottish Studies, American Studies, Religion, Language and Linguistics, and Literary Studies.

The collaboration builds on a longstanding relationship between EUP and Paradigm. Many of the selected titles, originating as early as the 1970s and 1980s, have not previously been digitized and include early scholarship on machine intelligence and artificial intelligence. EUP’s physical archive dates back to 1949 and contains works that have played a significant role in the development of the humanities and social sciences.

The digitization effort is expected to enhance discoverability and citation of older academic works by eliminating traditional limitations associated with print-only access. Paradigm will oversee the digital archiving process, enabling renewed engagement with foundational scholarship.
