Unbound Medicine and Open RN collaborate to enhance Nursing Education with open resources -

Unbound Medicine and Open RN have announced a partnership aimed at increasing access to high-quality open educational resources (OER) for nursing educators and students. Through this collaboration, Unbound Medicine’s Nursing Central™ platform now includes a comprehensive collection of core curriculum materials developed by Open RN, a recognized leader in open nursing education. By integrating Open RN’s rigorously peer-reviewed, evidence-based content into Nursing Central, the platform’s educational offerings are significantly expanded.

Nursing education continues to face challenges such as rising costs, limited availability of up-to-date information, and the need for interactive learning tools suited to today’s students. Over more than two decades, Nursing Central has evolved from a clinical question-answering tool to include scenario-based learning and AI-driven capabilities for curriculum planning and personalized instruction. The addition of foundational nursing content created under the OER model further broadens the platform, uniting clinical references, essential curricular resources, and innovative teaching tools to support nursing education transformation.

This enhanced platform enables educational institutions to provide evidence-based instruction more efficiently and cost-effectively. Educators gain access to robust tools for designing engaging, customized learning experiences accessible across devices, while students benefit from flexible, personalized learning materials. The expanded capabilities of Nursing Central position nursing programs and their students to succeed within the rapidly changing healthcare environment.

Kimberly Ernstmeyer, Project Director of Open RN, emphasized the organization’s mission to increase equitable access to nursing education, noting that the partnership with Unbound Medicine extends the reach of their openly licensed resources while enhancing learner engagement through advanced digital tools.

Bill Detmer, CEO of Unbound Medicine, highlighted that the integration of AI, case-based scenarios, and now Open RN’s core curriculum content addresses the evolving demands of nursing education by supporting high-quality, personalized learning experiences, reducing costs, and preparing students for successful nursing careers.
