American Psychiatric Association journals maintain strong impact factor performance in 2025 citation reports -

The American Psychiatric Association (APA) has reported robust performance across its journals in the latest Journal Citation Reports released by Clarivate Analytics for 2025. All four APA journals received updated impact factors, reinforcing their presence in the scientific literature and ongoing relevance to the field of psychiatry and behavioral science. Impact Factor is a bibliometric calculation that describes the level of influence a journal’s published output has on the scientific literature by measuring how many times the work it publishes is subsequently cited by others.

The American Journal of Psychiatry (AJP), APA’s flagship publication, received an impact factor of 14.7, placing it fifth among 288 psychiatry journals. The score reflects that, on average, each article published in AJP during 2022 and 2023 was cited by nearly 15 articles in 2024. With 37,962 total citations, AJP remains one of the most cited psychiatry journals globally.

Psychiatric Services, is a monthly peer-reviewed APA journal, which focuses on mental health service delivery and community-based care, received an impact factor of 3.2, supported by 12,317 total citations. The journal has been in continuous publication since 1950 and continues to highlight research relevant to individuals with serious mental illness.

The Journal of Neuropsychiatry and Clinical Neurosciences (JNCN) received an impact factor 2.9, based on 3,754 citations. JNCN covers topics at the intersection of psychiatry, neurology, and neuroscience, and serves as the official journal of the American Neuropsychiatric Association.

The American Journal of Psychotherapy, focused on advancing theory, clinical practice, and interdisciplinary research in psychotherapy, received an impact factor of 2.5, with 937 total citations.

All four journals are available via psychiatryonline.org, APA’s centralized digital platform.
