JSTOR and the Statewide California Electronic Library Consortium (SCELC) have announced a new consortium-wide agreement extending JSTOR Digital Stewardship Services to all SCELC member institutions. The partnership will enable more than 100 libraries to access tools for digital asset management, long-term preservation, and AI-powered collections processing support.
The initiative aims to support libraries in managing and sharing their distinctive digital collections at scale. JSTOR’s stewardship program offers three tiers of service designed to meet varying institutional needs, ranging from basic discoverability support to advanced AI-driven processing through tools like JSTOR Seeklight.
As part of the agreement, participating institutions will receive two years of fee subsidies and implementation support from SCELC staff. SCELC Libraries joining the Tier 3 charter program will continue developing JSTOR’s stewardship tools, helping refine services such as Seeklight, which automates descriptive metadata creation.
The agreement is intended to reduce barriers for libraries seeking scalable stewardship solutions and to foster broader institutional participation in shaping future capabilities. It also highlights the role of coordinated, system-level partnerships in addressing shared challenges in digital preservation.
