The Association for Computing Machinery (ACM) has announced the launch of ACM AI Letters (AILET), a new open-access journal designed to facilitate fast, peer-reviewed publication of timely research in artificial intelligence. The journal is scheduled to begin accepting submissions in summer 2025, with no publication charges for the first three years.
AILET is intended to bridge the gap between traditional journals and conferences by offering a letters-style format that supports the rapid communication of novel AI findings.
ACM will support concise summaries in the following areas:
• Theoretical AI: Breakthroughs in AI
• Algorithmic Advances: Significant algorithmic and scientific advances
• Practical Applications: Novel or deployed real-world applications in settings like healthcare, finance, robotics, and autonomous systems
• AI & Society: AI solutions addressing key societal challenges such as the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals
• Emerging Topics: In areas like AI ethics, explainable AI, policy, governance, and responsible AI, focusing on their implications in practical implementations
• Opinions and briefs: Opinion pieces, policy briefs, and comparative assessments
The journal’s editorial leadership includes Nitesh Chawla (University of Notre Dame), Barry O’Sullivan (University College Cork), and Richa Singh (IIT Jodhpur), supported by a global advisory board and an international editorial team. This structure is designed to ensure fast peer review while maintaining high quality standards.
ACM stated that AILET responds to the pressing need for more agile publication options in AI, where traditional journals often lag behind the pace of innovation. By offering shorter, impactful papers, AILET aims to expand access to cutting-edge AI research for both academic and industry audiences.
The journal is part of ACM’s broader publishing program, which includes over 70 peer-reviewed titles spanning a wide range of computing and information science disciplines.
