The Directory of Open Access Journals (DOAJ) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the China National Publications Import & Export (Group) Co., Ltd. (CNPIEC) to establish a joint DOAJ China Open Access Journal Pre-evaluation Working Group.
The initiative will provide Chinese journals with the opportunity to undergo pre-evaluation before applying to DOAJ. Through this process, journals will receive feedback for improvement, recommendations on selection, and training to prepare for the formal application stage. The program aims to streamline the submission pathway, raise publication standards, and improve international visibility for Chinese journals.
The collaboration is expected to strengthen academic exchange between China and the global research community. CNPIEC will contribute its experience in journal dissemination, resource integration, and international services, while DOAJ will offer indexing expertise and quality assurance. Together, the organizations seek to support the development of high-quality open access journals in China.
DOAJ currently indexes more than 22,000 peer-reviewed open access journals across disciplines. CNPIEC, a state-owned cultural enterprise founded in 1949, provides publishing, digital resources, and exhibition services for thousands of institutions in more than 170 countries.
