The American Thoracic Society (ATS) has announced a partnership with Oxford University Press (OUP), a nonprofit academic publisher, to support the long-term success of its journals. Beginning in 2026, OUP will oversee the production and distribution of all four peer-reviewed ATS journals: the American Journal of Respiratory and Critical Care Medicine, the Annals of the American Thoracic Society, the American Journal of Respiratory Cell and Molecular Biology, and ATS Scholar.
The partnership is intended to strengthen the visibility, reach, and influence of the ATS journals while helping the Society navigate an evolving publishing environment. ATS will continue to oversee editorial direction and peer review, while OUP will manage production and dissemination.
Raed Dweik, ATS President, highlighted that Oxford University Press has a strong reputation in academic publishing and that the Society expects the collaboration to help extend the reach of its journals while maintaining their impact for future generations of clinicians, researchers, and educators in pulmonary, critical care, and sleep medicine.
Alison Denby, Vice President of Journals at OUP, noted that the organization values the opportunity to work with the American Thoracic Society on its four journals and views the collaboration as consistent with both groups’ shared commitment to research and education in respiratory science.
