Wichita State University enhances library innovation through MOBIUS and EBSCO FOLIO -

Wichita State University Libraries (WSU) has joined the MOBIUS consortium and adopted the open-source FOLIO platform with implementation and hosting support from EBSCO Information Services (EBSCO). Going live on September 16 as part of the consortium’s shared tenant, WSU now participates in a regional resource-sharing network that enhances access to library materials and fosters collaborative innovation.

Through this membership, WSU joins a network of 73 libraries across academic, public, and special institutions, gaining access to a collective catalog of more than 30 million items. The university’s students, faculty, and staff can now benefit from expanded borrowing capabilities that complement WSU’s two million existing volumes and extensive digital collections.

The collaboration integrates WSU into the global FOLIO community, connecting it with over 300 libraries supported by EBSCO. This shared infrastructure enables libraries to modernize operations, reduce costs, and exchange expertise while maintaining local control and identity.

WSU also plans to launch OpenRS, the Open Library Foundation’s open-source resource-sharing platform, later this fall to further streamline materials delivery and improve access across consortia. The initiative underscores EBSCO’s ongoing commitment to advancing open-source innovation and collaboration in library services.

EBSCO’s FOLIO platform continues to expand its role in enabling consortia to adopt interoperable, sustainable, and scalable systems. The partnership between WSU, MOBIUS, and EBSCO reflects how shared technology and open collaboration can strengthen academic libraries and enhance access to information across regions.
