Oxford University Press to acquire Karger Publishers -

Oxford University Press has entered a definitive agreement to acquire Karger Publishers, with completion expected in December. Following completion, the acquisition will integrate Karger Publishers into Oxford University Press’s broader organization, aligning a shared emphasis on quality, scholarly integrity, and the advancement of medical and health sciences publishing.

Oxford University Press, a department of the University of Oxford, is one of the world’s oldest and largest university press publishers, publishing thousands of research books and journals annually across diverse disciplines and formats in pursuit of the university’s mission to support excellence in research, scholarship, and education.

Karger Publishers, founded in 1890 with a mission to connect people and science, is recognized for its extensive contributions to medicine and healthcare publishing. The company currently produces nearly 100 journals, 82 of which are indexed in the Science Citation Index with Impact Factor rankings, along with a backlist of 9,000 medical and health sciences books and various educational and outreach resources for researchers, healthcare professionals, and industry partners.

The acquisition supports Oxford University Press’s goal of strengthening its presence in medicine and health sciences by building on Karger’s established reputation and expertise. Both organizations view the combination as a continuation of their commitment to uphold trust, quality, and innovation in academic publishing worldwide.
