Elsevier has entered into a definitive agreement to acquire Mytonomy, a provider of video-based patient engagement solutions that will complement Elsevier’s Clinical Solutions portfolio. Completion of the acquisition remains subject to customary regulatory closing conditions.
Mytonomy Cloud for Healthcare is a configurable enterprise Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) platform that integrates clinically validated patient education videos, enterprise content management, survey tools, and direct-to-patient communications within a healthcare system’s electronic health records (EHR). The platform automates patient journeys within clinical workflows and delivers personalized engagement along with real-time analytics through patient portals and multiple channels.
The company states that the platform demonstrates measurable engagement outcomes. For example, surgery patients in Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) pathways watch more than 20 minutes of video per session. Survey results also indicate that 73 percent of patients attribute Mytonomy video viewing throughout the care journey, including before and after procedures, to helping them adhere to their care plans.
Elsevier’s Clinician of the Future report indicates that many clinicians expect most patients to self-diagnose online within the next two to three years rather than visit a clinician, raising concerns about misinformation as AI continues to advance in healthcare. Combining Mytonomy’s platform with Elsevier’s content and capabilities is expected to strengthen Elsevier’s patient engagement capabilities, which deliver standardized written and multimedia education integrated directly into EHR workflows to support patient understanding, outcomes, and clinical efficiency.
Integrating Mytonomy’s patient engagement platform with Elsevier’s information and insights is intended to establish a scalable foundation for future growth and enable more connected experiences for health systems and patients.
