IOP Publishing integrates IPregistry.org for streamlined library authentication -

IOP Publishing (IOPP) has integrated the IPregistry.org API into its systems to improve secure and accurate access to published content. The integration enables automated Internet Protocol (IP) address updates to flow directly from IPregistry.org, reducing authentication errors and minimizing administrative workload for libraries.

With approximately 90 percent of usage coming through institutional access, maintaining accurate authentication data is considered essential for uninterrupted access to content. Institutions frequently update IP addresses as networks evolve, such as when changing providers, restructuring systems, or adding new sites. IPregistry.org processes more than 1,200 amendments each month, validating each change before sharing verified data with publishers. The automated integration is expected to enhance data accuracy and reduce administrative demands for both libraries and publisher teams.

Andrew Pitts, CEO of IPregistry.org, noted that accurate IP data is critical for facilitating legitimate access to scholarly content. He explained that the partnership supports more efficient and secure collaboration between libraries and IOP Publishing by automating and verifying IP management.

Matthew Keen, Product Manager at IOP Publishing, stated that the integration aligns with the organization’s efforts to optimize systems to meet market demand, improve discoverability, and support research impact. He indicated that the collaboration would benefit institutional customers by ensuring seamless access and maximizing usage.
