ASPET transfers ownership of Pharmacology Research and Perspectives journal to BPS and Wiley -

The American Society for Pharmacology and Experimental Therapeutics (ASPET) and the British Pharmacological Society (BPS) have announced that ASPET has sold its ownership stake in the journal Pharmacology Research and Perspectives (PR&P) to BPS and its publishing partner, Wiley.

PR&P was launched in 2013 as a Gold Open Access journal through a joint effort by ASPET, BPS, and Wiley. Since its inception, the journal has experienced steady growth in submissions, publications, impact factor (2022 IF: 2.97), and readership. The editorial team has focused on providing access to rigorous research across basic and clinical pharmacology, supporting reproducibility, early clinical development of new chemical entities, and critical evaluation of established pharmacological concepts. The journal’s success has demonstrated the viability of Gold Open Access publishing in pharmacology.

Jennifer Martin, Editor‑in‑Chief of PR&P, stated that the journal has made a significant impact on pharmacology research since its founding under the leadership of its first Editor‑in‑Chief, Mike Curtis. She emphasized that the transition will not affect authors or readers, as editorial standards, submission processes, and the overall experience will remain unchanged.

Dave Jackson, Executive Officer of ASPET, described the agreement as a natural progression in the evolution of the societies’ publishing portfolios. He noted that ASPET and BPS have a long history of collaboration in advancing pharmacology and supporting professional development, and expressed congratulations to BPS on taking PR&P forward.

Neha Issar‑Brown, PhD, Chief Executive Officer of BPS, commented that the transition provides an opportunity to bring all three BPS journals under one umbrella, strengthening their collective visibility and impact across pharmacology. She acknowledged ASPET’s contributions to PR&P’s success and highlighted the society’s continued collaboration in support of pharmacological science, with plans to expand the journal’s reach to new audiences.
