AAPG and GeoScienceWorld finalize Datapages merger -

The American Association of Petroleum Geologists (AAPG) and GeoScienceWorld (GSW) announced that the Datapages Board of Directors and the AAPG Executive Committee have approved the merger of Datapages into GeoScienceWorld.

The merger combines two established geoscience publishing resources. Datapages contributes a long‑standing archive of applied geoscience content and a strong presence in the corporate sector, while GeoScienceWorld brings a modern publishing platform, broad partnerships, and reach across academic, government, and institutional markets.

According to AAPG’s Executive Director Tom Wilker, the integration of Datapages into GSW is intended to preserve trusted geoscience content, improve discovery, and create long‑term value for members and publishing partners. He noted that Datapages has built a unique applied geoscience resource and that the merger positions it for broader reach and stronger technology.

Datapages has served AAPG members, publishing partners, customers, and the wider geoscience community for nearly three decades. It provides subscription and pay‑per‑view access to a digital archive of publications from more than 60 geological societies worldwide. It also hosts AAPG’s Search & Discovery content and the AAPG Bulletin, while ownership of content remains with AAPG, publishing partners, and authors.

GSW Chief Executive Officer Phoebe McMellon stated that the merger aligns with GSW’s mission to support society publishers and enhance the accessibility of geoscience research. She emphasized that Datapages’ legacy in applied geoscience and the corporate marketplace would be strengthened through the partnership.

GeoScienceWorld, a nonprofit organization founded in 2004 by AAPG and other geoscience societies, provides publishing technologies and services to independent geological societies. It currently collaborates with 39 society publishers and serves more than 900 academic, government, and corporate institutions worldwide.

AAPG has been involved in GSW governance since its inception and will continue to play a role in shaping its future direction. The organizations confirmed that the decision was made with the long‑term interests of AAPG members, Datapages customers, publishing partners, and the broader geoscience community in mind.
