Elsevier has introduced “Ask AI,” a generative AI feature integrated into ClinicalKey, its clinical decision support platform. The feature is being made available to more than 1,500 hospital sites across the United States beginning in September.
Ask AI enables clinicians to pose clinical questions in a conversational format and receive concise answers supported by ClinicalKey’s evidence-based resources. These include more than 900 full-text scientific journals, thousands of clinical overviews and guidelines, books, and other trusted sources.
Omry Bigger, President of Clinical Solutions at Elsevier, explained that the functionality is intended to provide clinicians with fast and reliable answers at the point of care. He noted that by grounding responses exclusively in ClinicalKey’s content, the tool combines the efficiency of conversational AI with the reliability and security expected by healthcare professionals.
ClinicalKey Ask AI offers:
• Direct answers to clinical questions with transparent citations from evidence-based sources, including leading journals and medical organizations.
• Faster access to clinical knowledge compared to traditional search methods.
• Assurance that information is not drawn from the open web and that patient-identifiable data is not stored or processed.
In addition to Ask AI, Elsevier continues to provide ClinicalKey AI, launched in 2024, which offers a more personalized clinical workspace. ClinicalKey AI includes API-based integration, support for embedding into electronic health record workflows, and enhanced user features such as voice-to-text dictation, privacy controls, and toggling between adult and pediatric contexts. It is designed to support HIPAA-compliant use and includes multi-language capabilities along with prompt sharing.
