Clarivate has announced Web of Science DeepR, a set of capabilities designed to integrate full‑text content from ProQuest and other sources with the Web of Science research discovery environment. The initiative combines article discovery, full‑text access, and AI‑assisted document exploration within the Web of Science platform.
DeepR extends the Web of Science Core Collection beyond discovery and linking, enabling access to eligible full‑text articles directly within the platform. The first release, scheduled later this year, will include an integrated PDF and HTML reader, an AI‑powered Document Assistant, and relevance summaries to help researchers quickly determine which articles merit deeper review.
The system is intended to streamline workflows by allowing researchers to read, assess, and explore content in one environment. By minimizing the time spent navigating across links and formats, DeepR supports faster relevance assessment and helps researchers focus on literature most likely to advance their work. Clarivate emphasized that AI‑enabled tools should deepen engagement with scholarly content rather than distance users from it, noting that outputs will remain grounded in the underlying article.
For libraries, DeepR introduces new functionality without requiring separate platforms or additional implementation. Institutions can deliver these capabilities through existing Web of Science access, with initial coverage including full‑text available via ProQuest subscriptions and open access content. Future updates are expected to expand coverage to additional sources.
The platform also supports library investments by surfacing subscribed and open access content closer to the point of discovery, potentially increasing usage and demonstrating the value of funded resources.
Clarivate noted that many research insights are found in details such as study design, methodology, or proposed future work, rather than metadata alone. DeepR is positioned as a foundation for richer exploration of these elements. The Web of Science Research Assistant, an AI tool built on Core Collection data, will also draw on deeper full‑text signals to provide contextual answers and enhanced literature review experiences.
The first release of DeepR marks the beginning of a broader effort to create a more connected research environment. Over time, the platform is expected to support the full research lifecycle, from funding discovery to literature review, evidence exploration, idea development, and communication of results, all within a unified environment grounded in trusted content and workflows.
