The American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) has announced a partnership with Consensus, an academic search tool widely used outside of PubMed and Google Scholar, to integrate research from the six Science family journals into AI‑enabled discovery platforms for the scientific community.
Through this collaboration, Consensus is indexing and running AI analysis across the full text of AAAS journals. The content is not being used to train AI models; instead, it supports search and analysis functions that direct users back to the original articles, which remain the authoritative sources.
Since the inclusion of Science family journal content in Consensus in August, click‑throughs per search appearance have more than doubled compared with the same period in 2025.
Consensus has become a significant driver of referral traffic for publisher partners. The platform serves more than 10 million users and, for many publishers, generates more traffic than general‑purpose AI assistants such as ChatGPT and Gemini.
AAAS indicated that the partnership reflects its broader approach to AI‑enabled discovery, aiming to make high‑quality scientific research more visible and useful to researchers while maintaining a clear path to the original source. As researchers increasingly rely on AI tools to navigate scientific literature, ensuring that Science family research remains both discoverable and traceable is considered an important step in preserving the integrity of the scientific record.
